Listen to Obituary

William W. “Bill” Simmons, 69, of Abbottstown, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at York North Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was the husband of Dolores A. “Dee” (Goodman) Simmons, to whom he was married for 27 years.

Bill was born on July 6, 1956, in Parkville, Maryland, a son of William E. Simmons and the late Helen (Gibson) Simmons. After graduating Parkville Senior High School, Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long career as a truck driver.

Mr. Simmons had a passion for model railroading and was a devoted member of the Susquehanna Valley Garden Railway Society. He took great pride in the garden railway he built in his yard, where a G scale train wound its way through the landscape. He was also a longtime member of Concordia Lodge No. 13, Free and Accepted Masons, in Maryland.

Along with his wife, Mr. Simmons is survived by a son, Roy Myers, of Baltimore; a daughter, Beth Myers–Edwards, of Baltimore; three grandchildren, Kelly and husband Christopher Schoenberg, Eleanor Myers, and Agnes Myers; two great grandchildren, Jesse and Autumn Schoenberg; and two sisters, Sandy Simmons and husband Pat, and Joan Beauchamp. Bill is preceded in death by his mother, Helen (Gibson) Simmons.

Memorial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., is honored to serve the family.
