William “Bill” Hensel, 94, of York, passed away Friday, August 21, 2026 at Providence Place Senior Living of Dover. He was the husband of the late Dolly Mae (Test) Hensel to whom he was married for 64 years before her passing in 2018.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., August 27, 2026 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 950 W. Market Street in York, with a viewing from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Father Celestine Nwakuo will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery in York with full military honors provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., York, is honored to serve the family.
Born on August 18, 1932 in York, Bill was the son of the late William F. and Elizabeth P. (Schuler) Hensel. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was honored with the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal.
Bill was a devoted member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was also a member of the York Antique Car Club and the Vikings Athletic Association. A lifelong car enthusiast, Bill found great joy in his passion for classic cars. He was also committed to helping others, donating more than 100 pints of blood throughout his lifetime.
Surviving are his two sons, William W. Hensel and his wife Anita and Charles A. Hensel and his companion Kelly McKinsey both of York; three grandchildren, Melissa Steinbeiser and her husband Rich, Jennifer Bowen and her husband Mike, and Kristin Mancia and her husband Paul; seven great-grandchildren, Zachary, Amara, Alex, Gianna, Genevieve, Emalia, and Francesca. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolly, his parents, William and Elizabeth, a great-granddaughter, Annika Rose Steinbeiser, and his brother Carl Hensel.
