YORK - Wilbert W. Godfrey, Sr., 96, passed away Monday, May 24, 2010 at The Haven at Springwood. He was the husband of the late Anna Mae (Ehrlinger) Godfrey to whom he was married for 46 years and the late Josephine A. (Saich) Godfrey to whom he was married for 23 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 28, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with his Pastor, The Rev. Glenn A. Detter officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-11:00 AM Friday followed by full military honors provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be held at Mount Rose Cemetery. Born January 26, 1914 in Loganville, a son of the late Henry L. and Clara E. (Shirey) Godfrey, he had worked for Motor Freight Co., and then served as President of Teamsters Local 430 from 1942 until his retirement in 1969. Mr. Godfrey was a member of York First Church of God, York VFW Post 556, Shiloh American Legion Post 791, and the US Marine Corps League. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of WWII where he served with the 5th Marine Division. Mr. Godfrey is survived by a daughter, Michele L. and husband Charles Staub of The Villages, FL; a son, Wilbert W. Godfrey, Jr. and wife Sandra of York; three stepchildren, Gerald Gingrich and Judy Gingrich both of Auburndale, FL, and Joanne Farrell of Harrisburg; nine grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and 12 brothers and sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to First Capitol Marine Corps League Detachment 521, PO Box 322, Thomasville, PA 17364.
