BEECH CREEK - Daniel "Dan" Richards Sr., age 67, died at University of Maryland Medical Center on Friday Oct. 16, 2009. He was born in Chambersburg, Pa. on July 6, 1942, son of the late Vaden P. Richards and Charlene Crawford Richards of Fayetteville, Pa. Dan was a member of the Cedar Heights Brethren of Christ Church in Mill Hall, was a technician for Penn State University, member of the American Postal Workers Union, and formerly sang with the Lock Haven Community Choir. He served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War, was an avid motorcycle rider, loved gardening and bird watching, was a NASCAR fan, and Penn State football fan. Dan loved singing especially praising the Lord at his church. On Oct. 14, 2006, Dan married Joan (Lafferty) Richards who survives in Beech Creek. Also surviving is his son: Dan Richards Jr. of Lamar, daughters: Gail Flowers of Greenbelt, Md., Julie (Francois) Fontaine of Chantilly, Va. and Carolynn (George) Grammas of Annapolis, Md., grandchildren: Lauren, Eleanor, Sophie, Elizabeth, Kelsie, Remy, Sebastian, Luc, and Hunter. Also sisters: VaDena J. Richards of Chambersburg, Pa., Diana A. (Albert) Stoner and Darlin M. (Patrick) McDaniel both of Fayetteville, Pa. and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Cedar Heights Brethren of Christ Church on Rt. 64 in Mill Hall at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening with Pastor Tom Seaman and assistant Pastor Janice Heiser officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Centre County Memorial Park in State College will full military rites.
