Vicky Ann (Eyster) Kochenour, 71 entered into God’s Kingdom Thursday morning, June 12, 2025 at her home with her loving husband Michael by her side.
Born June 14, 1953 in York, Vicky was the daughter of the late Lester “Shorty” and Betty (Berkheimer) Eyster. She graduated from West York Area High School in the Class of 1971. She worked as an executive assistant at Prudential Insurance Company. She became the devoted wife of Michael E. Kochenour in 1973. After taking extended family time off to give birth to their long-awaited daughter Danielle and play an extremely active role in her early development, Vicky pursued her passion for children by becoming a preschool teacher at Calvary United Preschool. She became known as “Miss Vicky” and was beloved by so many children and generations of families over a career that spanned three decades.
She absolutely cherished the lifelong bond she shared with her husband Mike that started all the way back in junior high school. They shared 52 glorious years of marriage together as life partners. They found joy together in the simple things in life and maintained strength in their relationship by depending on God and each other.
Vicky worshipped the Lord - her faith and salvation assured. She was a most trusted friend and brought the spirit of traditional home and family values to every person she touched through a life lived by providing love, tenderness, kindness & caring, selfless service. She was the consummate ‘do everything’ mom, always present and engaged for her daughter Danielle, passing those traits on to Danielle and enabling her to achieve the same with her kids. Danielle was not only a daughter, she was her mom’s best friend and served as her prayer partner when faced with life’s challenges.
The delights of Vicky’s life were her three precious grandkids Conner, Jadyn, and Riley (now 13, 11, and 8). She loved reading books, singing songs, coloring and playing games with them in the early years which then led to cheering them on for golf, basketball, lacrosse, gymnastics, cheerleading and school stage performances.
Following the sad loss of her stillborn granddaughter Brooke in 2013, Vicky was moved to create and distribute beautiful memory boxes to The Smallest Gift organization and directly to NICU areas of local hospitals.
Vicky adored and coddled her many indoor and outdoor feline friends over the years. Maizi, Maddi, and Bro are going to miss her daily tender touch. The Kochenour home is adorned with warmth and beauty throughout from her extraordinary creative and crafty talents and exquisite taste and green thumb for flowers and plants.
She treasured fun and relaxing family trips to the Outer Banks with Danielle, Erik & her grandkids. She also enjoyed sharing special times in Hilton Head with her in-laws Karen and Roll. She loved spending quality time with her best friends hanging out on her porch, taking trips to NYC, and shopping both local and afar. Her life was further enriched by the close relationship she had with her niece Tammy.
In addition to her husband Michael, Vicky is survived by a daughter Danielle Garton & her husband Erik; three grandchildren Conner, Jadyn & Riley; a sister Lora Ruppert & her husband Clark; seven nieces & nephews and a beloved extended family. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Brooke.
The family will hold an intimate private funeral in the near term. We know that many extended family members and dear personal, business, and community friends will want to honor Vicky in person. A memorial celebration service is being planned for Sunday, August 10, 2025. Details will be forthcoming at a future time. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the York County SPCA, 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406.
