Velma M. (Hanna) Sharp, 97, of York, passed away peacefully at her home on August 1, 2025; surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Charles D. Sharp, Sr. who passed away in 1987. Her life was a testament to the virtues of love, caring, and an unwavering dedication to those she cherished.

Mrs. Sharp was born on April 4, 1928 in West Virginia, a daughter of the late Robert A. and Barbara M. (Lester) Hanna. From a young age she worked in a cigar factory, showcasing her strong work ethic and commitment to providing for her family. Velma's career was marked by her significant roles as a department head at Woolworth and J.M. Fields Department Stores. She embodied a personality that was very loving and protective, always caring for her family with an unselfish and forgiving spirit. Her family was the pride of her life, particularly her grandson, Patrick, whom she adored.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Velma had a deep passion for gardening and was an accomplished seamstress. Her love for crocheting afghans was notable as she earned numerous ribbons at the York Fair for her exquisite craftsmanship. Velma also enjoyed the tranquility of putting puzzles together, which provided her with moments of reflection and joy.

Mrs. Sharp is survived by her son, Charles D. Sharp, Jr. of York; two daughters, Linda Marie Sharp of York and Nancy and her husband Neal Miller of Friendship, NY; her grandson, Patrick Zartman; and a sister, Ada Hanna of Florida. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy L. Hanna, Sr., Ralph Hanna, Delbert Hanna, and Bruce Hanna.

Tribute Services will be private at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with burial at St. Jacob's Union Cemetery in York New Salem.
