FAWN GROVE - Vaughn A. Torbert, 42, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009. He was the son of Dale and Barbara (Kennedy) Koontz Torbert and is also survived by a sister Susan Moore and her daughter Rebecca of Red Lion; a brother, Jack Koontz, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Felton; and a sister, Cassandra Koons and her daughter Amber of Red Lion. Vaughn was born September 27, 1966 in Fawn Township where he lived all his life. He was employed since 1986 by Dynamic Science, Inc., located at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. He worked for the Army Research Laboratory as a gunner and test director. Vaughn was a valued member of Armor Mechanics Branch. He worked on many high profile programs such as Humvee-up armor and the MRAP that currently protects our soldiers. Prior to Dynamic Science he worked on the family farm and helped in the family income tax service for a couple of years. He was also a real estate investor. He had an off the wall sense of humor and was very intelligent, kind, considerate, loyal, trustworthy, patient, quiet, calm, and generous. Vaughn could be a guy of few words at times or giving a serious opinion on a subject. Out of nowhere would come the unexpected wit he had just at the right moment to make you smile. He was a great cook that wasn't afraid to experiment with different flavors and ingredients. Vaughn enjoyed sports and was a lifelong Indianapolis Colts fan. He played football, baseball, golf, and lifted weights in his youth. He was a 1984 graduate of Kennard-Dale High School. He also liked music and taught himself to play the guitar. Vaughn enjoyed gardening, taking care of his blueberry patch, and also the many purple martins that visited his bird houses. Vaughn was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church in Gatchelville. He was a wonderful son and brother and will be missed every day by those that love him.
