RED LION – Thomas Herbert “Tom” Thompson, 82, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025 at his home. He was the loving husband of Suzanne C. (Smith) Thompson.

Born on August 18, 1943, in Syracuse, New York, Tom was the son of the late Eugene and Midge (Herbert) Thompson. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his service, Tom went on to college, ultimately earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland. He built a successful career in the printing industry, selling printing presses for KBA Motter. Later in life, Tom worked as a school bus driver, where he especially enjoyed connecting with the children and the lasting friendships he formed with his fellow drivers.

From a young age, Tom and his brothers shared a fascination with automobiles, and building his first car remained a lifelong source of pride. Car magazines were always close at hand, reflecting a passion that never faded. In his middle years, Tom loved being outdoors, whether snow skiing, ice skating, sailing his Sunfish on Codorus Lake, or teaching sailing to Girl Scouts. Ever curious about how things worked, Tom could often be found tinkering or woodworking in his fully equipped garage. Above all, Tom cherished time spent with friends, meeting new people, and enjoying social gatherings whether over brunch or at local events. Thomas was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Freedom.

In addition to his beloved wife, Tom is survived by his daughter, Christina Latza and her husband Bill; his son, Michael Thompson and his wife Amber; and nine grandchildren, Owen, Bennett, Cameron, Riley, Brady, Emma, Ella, Claudia, and Aaron. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Murphy; brother, Leo Thompson; and his beloved dog, Sophie.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tom’s memory to support diabetes or cardiac research. Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
