Listen to Obituary

Susan Ann Weyant, affectionately known as Susie, Susie Q, Sue, Suz, Nana, MeMa, Mamee’, and Grandma Susie, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on the evening of January 8, 2026, with her devoted husband, Ralph, by her side—holding her hand and reminding her how deeply she was loved. Born on July 27, 1941, in Kane, PA, to John and Ruth Shelander, Susie lived a life marked by faith, joy, deep compassion, and a genuine love for people. She is now fully healed, free from suffering, and joyfully in the presence of Jesus.

Susie grew up in Smethport, PA, where she attended Smethport Area schools and graduated from Smethport High School in 1959. She was captain of the cheerleading squad, participated in school drama productions, and loved attending dances—especially Sadie Hawkins dances. After high school, she pursued her passion for caring for others by attending practical nursing school in Bradford, PA, earning her LPN license.

Susie began her nursing career at Bradford Hospital and later worked as a private duty nurse. She also served at Port Allegany Hospital, working in the recovery room, labor and delivery, pediatrics, and general nursing. She later joined Sena Kean Manor, where she discovered her calling in geriatric nursing and pursued additional training in memory care, becoming a trusted source of comfort for families navigating Alzheimer’s and dementia. For a short time, Susie also served at the Lutheran Home in York, continuing her commitment to compassionate care for aging adults.

Rather than retiring, Susie found joy working with Visiting Angels, where she was deeply loved by clients and colleagues alike. Even during her battle with ovarian cancer, she continued to encourage and inspire others with grace and courage.

Susie married Jerry Mix of Smethport in May 1960, and together they had two children: Steven Mix (wife Shelley) of Texas and Joan Mix Zeberlein (husband Curt) of Langhorne, PA. In October 1995, Susie married the love of her later years, Ralph Weyant of York, PA, with whom she shared deep companionship, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Together they embraced a blended family including Kristin Weyant of York, PA, Lori Rene Weyant (husband Chris Bortner), and her beloved son Ralph Weyant, Jr., who left this earth far too soon.

She was a proud and devoted grandmother to 16 grandchildren—Daniel (Ashli), McKenzie (Dylan), McKaylee (Michael), and McKade; Sidney and Samantha; Winston, Mason, and Ainsley; Antoine and Aidan; Harrison and Tristan; and Jordan, Shannon, and Weston—and a loving great-grandmother to Mason and Aiden, each of whom brought her immense joy.

In the early 2000s, Susie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, a decision that profoundly shaped her life. She was an active member of Living Word Community Church, where she participated in small groups and volunteered faithfully. During the Christmas season, she especially enjoyed ringing bells for the Salvation Army. Susie’s faith was evident in her daily devotions, time spent reading the Bible, and her constant desire to grow deeper in her walk with Jesus. Her faith gave her deep peace and a confident hope in eternal life.

Susie had a zest for life and a heart full of love. She enjoyed knitting, reading, and caring for her dogs. Her home was always open, and she delighted in hosting dinners, sending cards, making phone calls, and offering encouragement. Known for her fun-loving sense of humor and a collection of funny—and sometimes slightly inappropriate—sayings, Susie had a gift for making people laugh and feel deeply loved.

Susie’s life was a beautiful reflection of her servant’s heart. She loved fiercely, laughed often, and lived fully. Her legacy of compassion, faith, courage, and joy will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Ralphstock, Inc., a nonprofit organization created in loving memory of Ralph W. Weyant, Jr., who lost his life to malignant melanoma. Ralph was a gifted musician, known for his lyrics, composition, vocals, and especially his talent on the bass. Through his legacy, Ralphstock, Inc. supports the Melanoma Research Foundation, the York Cancer Center Patient Help Fund, and the Dallastown Scholarship Foundation. Donations may be made by check payable to Ralphstock, Attn: Neila Burrows, 2375 Ashleigh Drive, York, PA 17402 or via Venmo at @Ralphstock.

Donations may also be made to Visiting Angels, 1840 E. Market Street, York, PA 17402. This organization provides compassionate, personalized care that enriches the lives of aging adults and helps them thrive in the comfort of their own homes—a meaningful reflection of Susie’s lifelong calling as a caregiver.
