Sterling E. Simmons, Jr.

YORK – Sterling E. Simmons, Jr., 79, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Beverly J. (Gladfelter) Simmons to whom he was married for 59 years.

A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at Manchester Assembly of God on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 7:00 PM. There will be a visitation at the church prior from 6-7:00 PM. Rev. Thomas A. Gilman will be officiating the service. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., York, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born December 1, 1944, in York, he was a son of the late Sterling Sr. and Pauline (Hollinger) Simmons. After graduating from trade school, Sterling became a tool and die maker, where he worked for FCI, later retiring in 1998. After his retirement, Sterl worked at Lowe’s for some time. Outside of work, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, drinking beer and woodworking. When woodworking, he found pleasure in making wooden piggy banks. Most of all, he loved his great-grandchildren. They were his world.

Sterling is survived by his brother, Ronald Simmons; two children, Craig Simmons and his wife Debra, Jessica Eyler and her husband Anthony, four grandchildren; Kacey Smallwood, Brys, Brianna and Seth Eyler; and four great-grandchildren, Kylie, Zalen, Ashton and Lorelie. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly and a sister, Doris Cool.
