Sara Jane (Innerst) Strausbaugh

Sara Jane Strausbaugh, 90, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease at Autumn House West in York on April 30th. Born in York on January 12, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Elsie (Garbrick) Innerst. She was married for 68 years to Donald L. Strausbaugh until his death in 2020. Sara grew up in the little York County community of Pleasureville, surrounded by extended family, helping with the work on the family’s truck farm, attending Pleasureville Elementary School where her father was the principal, and making many happy memories with a group of seven girls all born within a few years of each other on the same short stretch of Sherman Street - and who remained lifelong friends. She graduated, along with Don, from North York High School in 1949, and went to work in the office of the York Dispatch newspaper. Later, after marriage and when her youngest started school, she was employed as a cook in several buildings in the Central York School District until her retirement. A lifelong member of Pleasureville United Methodist Church, she enjoyed singing on the church choir, tending her beautiful flower gardens, road trips up and down the East coast, vacations at the shore, and, above all, spending time with friends and family - especially her beloved grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and an accomplished seamstress. Sara is survived by her daughter, Angela Wanner and her husband David,of Landisville; son, Jed Strausbaugh and his wife Carlene, of York; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her six older siblings - Helen King, Mabel McKinney, Frederick Innerst, Arthur Innerst, Mary Little and Rose Peacock. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd.,York, with Certified Celebrant Betty Frey officiating.
