YORK--On Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, before the dawning of the day, Samuel Edward Wynegar (73) passed away quietly and peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Sam lived life on his terms and when diagnosed with Cancer, he fought it boldly with incredible grace and courage until the very end. His hope and love for life was inspiring to us all.
Sam served our Country as a Military Policeman in the United States Army, spending the majority of his six (6) year enlistment touring in Korea and Germany. He was an expert marksman and received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Following his Honorable Discharge, Sam worked at the New Cumberland Army Depot and Mechanicsburg Naval Depot as a Material Handler while attending the Antonelli Art Institute to enhance his creative side and set goals to achieve his desire for an incredibly versatile career path.
From Artist to Entrepreneur, Business Owner to Day Trader, in a word, Sam was curious. He loved to learn. His inquisitiveness and keen intellect drove each one of his pursuits. Whichever he was actively intrigued by throughout the years; he embraced solely, acquiring the necessary set of skills.
When he wasn’t working, Sam loved to spend time with friends and family. Working out, staying fit, and living a healthy lifestyle was always important to him. He loved playing cards, going to baseball games and he loved to dance. Just a few short years ago, you could often find him on the dance floor, impeccably dressed. He was a huge fantasy football fan and one of the founding members of the 23 year old York Fantasy Football League hosted on CBS Sportsline. He enjoyed his first Superbowl appearance this past season in a highly competitive league.
Sam was the son of the late William Gentry and Edna Mae (Hodgson) Wynegar, and the youngest of seventeen (17) children. He is survived by one (1) sibling, a sister, Edna Mae Henning of Manchester, PA.
He leaves behind his son, Michael (Rita) Wynegar of Dallastown, Grandsons; Dalton (Callie) Wynegar of Philadelphia, Dustin (Elizabeth) Keim of Dallastown, Dylan (Jamie) Keim of Dallastown, 7 Great Grandchildren; Blake Keim, Hayden Keim, Peyton Keim, Jailyn Keim, Emerson Keim, Jaxson Keim, and Baylor Keim, many nieces and nephews, his good friends, and his beloved furry friend, 8-year-old tabby cat named Simba.
