Stewart Maurice Grove passed away on Sunday, February 19th, 2023 in Misericordia Nursing Facility, after a stay of nearly one year.
Maurice was born in Felton, Pennsylvania on January 25, 1933 to M. Elsie (Tyson) and Sterling M. Grove. When he was 14, his family moved to Red Lion, Pennsylvania, where he spent the rest of his life. After attending schools in Felton and Red Lion, he was drafted into service during the Korean Conflict in 1953. He served in the 37th Infantry Division and later the 1st Armored Division after a training accident put him into the base hospital for six months. He finished his service and was honorably discharged from active duty in 1955 as a DAV.
He began his employment with Sechrist and Anderson Contractors and continued his woodworking career with Romand P. Neff and Son in Red Lion, with Bob Smith of Maytown, and with Rojahn Kitchens of Dallastown, from which he retired in 1998 as a plant manager.
Mr. Grove was a faithful member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Red Lion for over 60 years, serving as a member of the Worship Committee and Administrative Board as well as a trustee. He was also consulted many times for his woodworking expertise. He served on the Red Lion Zoning and Hearing Board. A lifelong member of Red Lion Lions Club, he was awarded the Melvin Jones Award and served on various committees within the organization.
Woodworking was not only his vocation but his hobby. He renovated his townhouse, his home at Walnut Grove Farm and kept his wife happy with her honey-do list. He enjoyed hunting, attending horse shows, and antiquing for old carpenter’s tools. In retirement, he enjoyed turning wooden pens in his well-stocked workshop in Equine Meadows.
In addition to his wife, Janet (Parthree) of 66 years, Mr. Grove is survived by two sons, Dr. Mark K. Grove (Karen) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Timothy W. Grove (Diane) of White Hall, Maryland. He has six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two foster great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Emma Grove and Esther I. Dietz; and three brothers, Perry E. Grove, J. Bruce Grove and Bernard M. Grove, Sr.
