Ruth Evelyn (Altland) Akins

YORK- Ruth E. (Altland) Akins, 88, died Friday, November 6, 2009 at York Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Charles E. Akins. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, with the Reverend Brad Gilbert officiating. A viewing will be from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Paul's Union Cemetery. Mrs. Akins was born on June 16, 1921, a daughter of the late Caleb and Mary Ellen (Crone) Altland. Ruth worked as a housewife. Mrs. Akins was a member of Dover Bethany United Methodist Church. Ruth was a member of the Society of Farm Women #13 Mrs. Akins is survived by two daughters, Joyce E. Fletcher and her husband Jim of Little Orleans, MD, and Cheryl L. Sprenkle and her husband David of Spring grove; five grandchildren, Kara, Beth, Bryan, Caren, and Denise; two great grandchildren, Cody and Paul; two brothers, John H. Altland of York Haven and Robert E. Altland of Tampa, Fl.; four sisters, Dorothy R. Moore of Fl., Lois E. Raver of Windsor, Bernice I. Altland of York, and Helen L. Markey of York. Along with her husband, Ruth is preceded in death by a daughter, Joan E. Akins; one brother, Clarence C. Altland; two sisters, Ida J. Evans and Betty M. Altland; and one stepbrother, Preston L. Snelbaker.
