Ruth Divens, 83, born January 12, 1943, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a cherished friend to many. Ruth was originally from Etters, Pennsylvania, and later made her home in Richlands, North Carolina, where she built a beautiful life surrounded by family, faith, and love.
Ruth was the beloved wife of Duwayne Divens. Together, they shared a life filled with family and countless memories. She was a devoted mother to Duwayne Divens Jr. and his wife, Paula; Kimberly Sunday and her husband, Michael; and Barbra Wright and her husband, Shawn.
Her greatest joy was her family. Ruth was a proud grandmother to Lloyd Divens and his wife, Chrissy; Jordan Divens, Michael Sunday Jr. and his wife, Annie; Mark Sunday and his wife, Amanda; Jason Sunday, Tarren Trout and her husband, Shane; and Cameron Wright. She was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Caleb Hill, Sophie Sunday, Pate Sunday, Nathan Sunday, Kaden Sunday, Jaxen Sunday, Kinslie Sunday, Griffin Divens, Lalani, Roman and Willow.
Ruth’s faith was an important part of who she was. She loved the Lord and treasured her church family at First Christian Church in Richlands, NC, where she enjoyed spending her Sundays worshiping and fellowshipping with others. Her faith guided the way she lived her life and the way she loved those around her.
Ruth had a special gift for caring for others. She loved cooking and sharing meals with family and friends, but perhaps her greatest gift was her love for children. Throughout her life, Ruth helped raise, mentor, and care for many children. She opened her heart and her home to children who grew up to become adults, leaving a lasting impact on each of their lives. To many, she was much more than someone who helped raise them—she was family.
Ruth will be remembered for her loving heart, her strong faith, her kindness, her cooking, and most of all, the love she gave so freely to others. She had a way of making people feel cared for and welcomed, and the lives she touched will forever carry a part of her.
Her family and friends will deeply miss her, but her love, lessons, faith, and memories will live on through the many people she loved and cared for.
“Her love was her legacy, her faith was her foundation, and her family was her greatest joy.”
Ruth will be laid to rest at Tri-County Memorial Gardens with a private memorial with family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society for Pancreatic Research.
