DOVER – Ronald Lee Howard, Sr., 89, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at WellSpan York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Judy E. (Crone) Howard, to whom he had been married for 54 years.
A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will take place Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM located at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., in York with Pastor Emily Buonocore officiating the service. There will be a viewing prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Bethany United Methodist Cemetery in Dover with military honors performed by York County Veterans Honor Guard.
Born June 1, 1934, in Dover, Mr. Howard was a son of the late Curvin and Irene (Quickel) Howard. A few years after high school, in 1956, Ronald joined the United States Army. He was a private first class and military police in the Army, later being honorably discharged in 1962. For most of his working life, he was a tool and die maker at Sylvania, where he retired in 1995. Outside of work, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. His family described him as someone who loved being outdoors. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
Mr. Howard is survived by three grandchildren, Timothy Howard and his wife Jennifer Howard, Samantha Pyne, and Allison Howard; three great-grandchildren, Ryker Howard, Liam Howard, and Abigail Pyne; a daughter-in-law, Anita Howard; a brother Curvin (Pete) Howard, Jr.; and sisters, Joanne Wintermyer, Nancy Murphy, Judy Merkert, and Karen Krout; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a son, Ronald L. Howard, Jr.; a grandson, Christopher Howard; brothers, Spurgeon and James Howard; a sister, Lois Jacobs; and a step-brother, Jack Stambaugh.
