Ronald E. “Slim” Colyer, 75, of Brogue, passed away Friday, May 29, 2026 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Sandra L. (Dettinger) Colyer with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage.
A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 5, 2026 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with Pastor Jeremy McCombs officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8:00 PM Thursday and 9-10:00 AM Friday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery.
Slim was born on March 2, 1951 in York. He was a son of the late Winifred M. (Deppen) Poff and the late Robert J. Colyer, Sr., and stepson to Bobby Poff of Yorkanna. Ronald demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for hands-on work. He began working at Glenwood Blouse Construction and Masonry, later lending his talents to Dettinger & Amspacher Masonry and Glen-Gery Brickyard, before going to Teledyne McKay Chain Company. In 1981, he established Colyer's General Repair, using his expertise as an auto mechanic to serve his community. His garage was a hub of knowledge, laughter, and camaraderie. Slim was a classic Chevy car enthusiast and a "jack of all trades," always ready to lend a hand fixing things - not just for family and friends, but often for strangers in need. This generosity and practical kindness were a hallmark of his character.
Slim treasured a good cup of coffee, finding companionship and conversation with his buddies at the CCC (Colyer Coffee Club) who gathered in his Garage. Music was another cherished element of his life. He loved old-style country and oldies music, often playing songs, dancing, and singing along to his jukebox. Slim also embraced the outdoors, spending time hunting at the Bear's Den Hunting Camp in Blair County as well as fishing.
In addition to his wife Sandy, Slim is survived by two sons, Ryan E. and wife Joanne Colyer and Clint M. and wife Nicole Colyer both of Brogue; two daughters, Ashley L. and husband Gordon Janes of Red Lion and Megan I.I. and husband Darryl Witmer of Holtwood, Lancaster Co., eight grandchildren, Sara and husband Josh Fillmore, Sam, Mya, and Max Colyer, Nolan Kilgore, and Ayriana, Christopher, and Harper Witmer; a brother, Robert Colyer Jr. and wife Joyce of Bedford, PA; and two sisters, Judy and husband Moe Flinchbaugh of Felton and Barb and husband Pete McCauslin of Aspers, PA; a sister-in-law, Wanda Colyer of Spring Grove; and countless nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rick Colyer.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to honor Slim's unselfish generosity and those who want to honor him can make a donation to York Cancer Patient Help Fund, c/o WellSpan Philanthropy Gift Processing Center, P.O.
