Roger Leo Murphy, 89, of Dover died Monday, April 28, 2025 peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family. Roger achieved his end-of-life goal to pass in his beloved sunroom with his giant TV, fireplace and a view of his beautiful backyard full of wildlife. He was the husband of the late Helen M. (Cepuch) Murphy. Roger and Helen enjoyed 49 years of family, travel and fun together.
Born on February 14, 1936 in Loretto, PA the son of Leo and Esther (Krug) Murphy. A graduate of Cresson Joint High School where he wrestled and played football. He moved to Lock Haven, PA and worked for Piper Aircraft and Bobbie Brooks as a mechanic/engineer. In Central PA Roger enjoyed Penn State Football games and women’s volleyball as a lifelong fan. Great memories were made at their hunting camp in Renovo, PA enjoying the mountains with family and friends. 1977 brought the Murphy’s to York where Roger worked for Dallco Industries until retirement. Through Dallco he and Helen developed many lifetime friendships, and the Fun Bunch Social Club was born with all its great times and a bit of shenanigans. Roger also did work for York Tent & Awning after retirement when it did not interfere with Golfing. He was a member of the Yellow Breeches Anglers and stocked trout and fished with his buddies. Roger loved to talk to everyone and was a great storyteller, he lived life to the fullest and loved to share his experiences.
Roger was a devoted husband and father and set an example to work hard, help others and love God. Roger is survived by a son Kevin Murphy of York and daughters Karen Howat (William) of OH, Kathy Riley (Thomas) of WV and Kristin Miller (fiancé Greg) of York; brother Francis Murphy and wife, Loretta and sister Bernadette Oatman and husband, Robert. Roger loved and enjoyed his eight grandchildren and six great grandsons, and they all loved Pap.
