York – Richard Joseph Fuhrman, 83, passed away at York North Nursing and Rehabilitation on August 11, 2025. Dick is survived by his wife of 60 years Barbara (Bittle) Fuhrman.
A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, 1569 W. Market St. York, PA 17404. Rev. Dr. Arther Grahe will be officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 – 11:00 AM. Inurnment will take place privately at a later date at St. Jacob’s Union Cemetery, York, New Salem. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Rd., is in charge of arrangements.
Richard J. “Dick” Fuhrman born to Edward and Grace (Small) Fuhrman of Mc Sherrystown on March 14, 1942. Dick graduated from Delone Catholic in 1960. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army for 3 years. He spent 32 months in Germany. While serving in the Army, he studied computers, which would become his lifetime work.
After being honorably discharged from the United States Army his first job was with Doe Spun Inc., in York, PA as their data processing manager for 30 years. Doe Spun moved south, so then Dick was hired at Kinard Trucking, Inc. where he retired in 2008. Dick was hired to perform their computer work.
Dick was a member of the St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, The Vikings Athletic Association as a lifetime member, Hawks Gunning Club as a lifetime member, the East Berlin VFW as a lifetime member, a charter member of York New Salem Union Club from 1977, Camp Resolute Member, Mc Sherrystown Fish and Game life time member, and the Shiloh American Legion as a lifetime member.
His hobbies included golf, bowling, enjoying family vacations to Oak Island, picnics at the house, and going out to dinner with his family and friends.
Along with his wife, Dick is survived by two daughters, Patti Piety (Andrew) of Spring Grove and Amy Mann (David) of Dallas, Georgia; granddaughter, Megan Donovan (James); grandsons, Alec, Tyler and Trevor; great-granddaughter, Sigourney; and his brother, Jerry Fuhrman (Judie) of Hanover, as well as many nieces and nephews.
