York-Richard S. Blair, 93, formerly of New York City passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Senior Commons in York.
Richard was born in York on August 4, 1931, the son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth (Berkstresser) Baublitz. He is a 1948 graduate of William Penn Senior High School. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War and spent the last year of his enlistment on the aircraft carrier USS Hornet making a goodwill tour around the world.
Richard then moved to New York and lived there for over 50 years. He was a professional actor who performed on Broadway, off-Broadway, national tours, regional theatre, television and cabaret. He started his career in the musical "Take Me Along" where he played the boyfriend of a young Liza Minnelli. Several times she took him to her mother's - Judy Garland - for dinner. It was while doing revues at the Upstairs at the Downstairs that he worked with Ruth Buzzi, Madeline Kahn, Linda Lavin and Lily Tomlin. More recently he did a tour of 'Mame" that played the Strand theatre here in York and the first several rows of seats were taken up by family.
Richard leaves a brother Robert Blair of York.
