Listen to Obituary

YORK - We are deeply saddened at the passing of our dear sister, Rev. Nancy (Hagginbothom) Jones, on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026. Born April 11th, 1950, in York and she grew into a person whose compassion, warmth and humor made the world a better place. Her life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and adventure. Nancy’s husband, Steve, was with her in her final moments and her son, Eric came to comfort and be with family. She was the daughter of Phyllis (Brownwell) Hagginbothom and Earl Hagginbothom and sister to Lynn Hagginbothom. She was a beloved Nana to her granddaughters, Alexis and Taylor, Godmother to Matthew Klinedinst and Jennifer Tracy.

Her love for flowers, knitting, travel and her ability to make others feel seen and valued will never be forgotten. She knitted bears for the Mother Bear Program that provided bears for orphaned children in Africa, knitted shawls for those who were ill, grieving or suffering. She recently joined TAFE (Theatre Arts for Everyone) and performed locally as part of that group. Nancy had an uncanny ability to remember and put together names and faces. To Nancy, those she met were just friends that she hadn’t yet discovered. She had an insatiable need to keep learning and growing, an infectious laugh, a warm hug and smile, a generous heart and a sharp wit that will be sorely missed.

Nancy graduated from York College with a BS, June 1972 and June 10, 1995, from Bethany Theological Seminary with a master’s in divinity. She served as Minister of Visitation at Codorus Church of the Brethren and was interim Pastor at Covenant Moravian Church. Nancy was a member of York First Church and served in many different capacities over the years. She served as a Deacon, on many Commissions and most recently as pastor filling the pulpit from time to time, Brethren Disaster Ministries in Kentucky, was part of a team reviewing the Congregational Structure, the Prayer shawl ministry, and acting as Lay Leader during worship service. She was a founding member of the Good News Class.

Known for her infectious laugh, generous heart, and unwavering loyalty, Nancy touched the lives of everyone she met. Whether sharing a lunch, providing an anointing, knitting a shawl or bear, sharing a joke, writing poetry, reading an interesting book or planning a new adventure she was always looking forward to learning and growing.

She is survived by her husband Steve, her son, Eric, his wife, Rachel, her granddaughters, Alexis and Taylor, of Davie, FL, her sister, Lynn Hagginbothom, and countless family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
