YORK - Pruett M. "Joe" Toomey, 78, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at his home. He was the loving husband of Donna J. (Ilgenfritz) Toomey and the couple shared 35 years of marriage.
A Home Going Celebration for Pruett will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2121 Roosevelt Ave, York, PA 17408 with Pastor Brian K. Smith officiating. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM there at the church. Burial will follow at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
Born July 9, 1948 in Munich, Germany, Pruett was a son of the late Luther B. and Bessie Mae (Eckenrode) Toomey. Pruett was a 1966 graduate from William Penn Senior High School. After school he honorably served our country in the Navy. Pruett retired from D and D Distribution where he worked as a shift supervisor and a forklift operator. Pruett and Donna were devoted members to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where he grew a strong relationship with God. In his free time, he loved camping, hunting, shooting billiards, bowling, playing spades, or cheering on the Tennessee Titans. Above all else, he cherished time spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, Pruett is survived by his devoted dog companion, Bandit; four children, Michelle Toomey and her partner Joe Hopkins, Eddie Poteet and his wife Summer, Tiffany Toomey and her partner Mike Nelson, and Bridgette Morris and her partner Alfred Wooden; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; four siblings, Connie Stine and her husband Butch, Morris Toomey and his wife Linda, Cindy Robinson, and Bryan Toomey and his wife Diane; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Pruett is preceded in death by a brother, Luther Toomey.
