Paul Herman Mitchell, Jr.

With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Paul Herman Mitchell, Jr., affectionately known to family and friends as "Skip" and "PJ". Paul passed away on August 30, 2026, in Tremont, Pennsylvania, at the age of 71.

Born on January 5, 1955, in Bluefield, West Virginia, Paul was the beloved son of Paul H. Mitchell, Sr. and Joyce O. Mitchell. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Nicole Hunt-Mitchell; his daughters and sons-in-law, Dominique & Sekou Magassouba and Shamatee Mitchell-Parker & Stephan Parker; and his stepsons, Khalil Brooks and Jameson Brooks. He was a proud grandfather to Audi Ember and Autumn Parker, and a loving step-grandfather to Elijah Magassouba, Mila Brooks, and Kali Brooks.

Paul is also survived by his siblings, Connie Mitchell-Bates and her husband, Robert Bates; James Mitchell, Sr.; Harold Mitchell; and Willis "Pee Wee" Mitchell, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.

Paul proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for twenty years, enlisting in January 1975 and retiring in January 1995. His military career encompassed numerous deployments and overseas tours while working in the areas of medical, supply, safety, and recruiting. As a Recruiter, he was recognized as one of the top recruiters in the Pennsylvania area for several years. Paul found great fulfillment mentoring young men and women as they began their own journeys of service. After retirement, he served the Pennsylvania State, Maryland State, and United States Federal Government’s within their Emergency Management offices.

He was a dedicated martial artist who earned black belts in both Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do and loved the outdoors where he found joy and peace in hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature. Paul appreciated life's simple blessings and treasured his family. He enjoyed his favorite treat of rice pudding, made from a family recipe, and he was the most loyal Dallas Cowboys fan wearing the blue and silver star every chance he had.

While his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his family finds comfort in the love he shared, the memories he created, and the enduring legacy he leaves behind. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A Homegoing Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at The Faith Center Church, 102 Federal Street, Bluefield, WV 24701. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is honored to serve the family.
