JACOBUS- Ned Jay Leader, 76, of Jacobus, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at the York South Skilled Nursing Facility, surrounded by his loving family, dear friends, and cherished grandchildren.
Born on July 17, 1949, Ned spent nearly his entire life in Jacobus, the community he proudly called home. He was the son of the late N. Jay "Jake" Leader and Helen (Bohnert) Geesey. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Sandra (Leader) Kern and Georgia (Leader) Miller.
Ned graduated from Dallastown Area High School in 1967, where he met the love of his life, Sharon Jamison. Their high school friendship blossomed into a lifelong love story, and they were married on April 29, 1969, in York. Together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, family, and unwavering commitment.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon (Jamison) Leader; his son, Jay Leader; his daughter, Jacqueline (Leader) Carlin; and his six beloved grandchildren, Aedan Bartolowits, Nathan Carlin, Sadie Carlin, Avery Layton, Colton Leader, and Amber Leader, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride.
Throughout his life, Ned was known as a hardworking and dependable man. He worked at Leader's Interiors, the family furniture business originally established by his great-grandfather, N.J. Leader, in Jacobus in 1905 as Leader Furniture & Funeral Home. He also worked for P.A. & S. Small Company, later known as Flemming, a York business with roots dating back to the early 1800s. Over the years, he also worked at River's Garage, in real estate, and at K&M Home Center, owned and operated by his sister, Sandra Kern, and her husband, Donald Kern.
Following in his father's footsteps, Ned dedicated time to serving his community as a volunteer with the Jacobus Lion’s Ambulance Club and the Jacobus Goodwill Fire Company. He believed in helping others without seeking recognition, a trait that remained with him throughout his life.
Ned had a lifelong passion for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who found peace in Pennsylvania's mountains and streams. He especially treasured his elk hunting trips to Colorado with close friends, often laughing as he retold stories of their adventures and unforgettable shenanigans. Family vacations frequently revolved around fishing, and some of his happiest memories were made casting a line in the Outer Banks and Alaska.
More than anything, Ned treasured his family. He worked tirelessly throughout his life to provide for those he loved and took great pride in watching his children and grandchildren grow. He was a quiet man with a warm heart, a quick wit, and a wonderful sense of humor. Though never one to seek the spotlight, he could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to family, friends, or a neighbor in need. His steady presence, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ned's family will forever cherish the memories they shared and find comfort knowing that his legacy of hard work, generosity, humility, and love will live on through the lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory is honored to serve the family. Send condolences at HeffnerCare.com
