Red Lion—Melvin N. Lutz, 89, formerly of Cross Roads, died Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Evelyn L. (Barnett) Lutz. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 PM, Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., with the Rev. Guy W. Dunham, officiating. A viewing will be held from 1-2 PM, Sunday, at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Hopewell Presbyterian Cemetery. Born July 31, 1922 in East Hopewell Township, he was a son of late Nelson and Blanche (Kinard) Lutz. He attended the former Bose School House and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, serving as Military Police with the Army Air Force from 1942-1945. He raised vegetables on his farm near Crossroads and with the help of his wife sold their produce door to door in York City and in the Red Lion area for more than 30 years. He was a member of Hopewell United Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder and taught Sunday school, was a member of the Stewartstown V.F.W, had a passion for vegetable gardening, enjoyed reading and studying history. Mr. Lutz is survived by two sons, Wendell M. Lutz and wife, Donna of Stewartstown and Perry A. Lutz and wife, Lana of Red Lion, four grandchildren, Dr. Angela Lutz, Scott Lutz, Amy Lutz Wills and Joy Lutz, 6 great grandchildren, one sister, Helen Orwig of Stewartstown and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, J. Maynard Lutz and Norman Lutz. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kaltreider-Benfer Library, 147 South Charles Street, Red Lion, Pa 17356.
