YORK- Melinda L. (Putnam) O’Brien, 48, of Manchester Township, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Pappus House in York. She was the wife of Joel P. O’Brien. The couple celebrated their 17th anniversary on August 13, 2022.
There will be three periods of public visitation all at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York. Visitors with children are encouraged to attend Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. There will also be visitation Wednesday and Thursday evenings (12/28 & 12/29) from 6-9 p.m. that the adult family members will be available to greet. The service is at 10 am on Friday, December 30, 2022 at a location disclosed at the discretion of the family and can be viewed live by searching Melinda’s obituary at HeffnerCare.com.
Melinda was born in Southfield, MI on July 21, 1974, the daughter of Mary L. (Tassari) Putnam of Jacksonville, FL and the late James L. Putnam. She was the Principal for Conewago Elementary School in the Northeastern School District.
Melinda leaves twin sons, Samuel G. O’Brien and Patrick J. O’Brien, as well as daughters, Reagan L. O’Brien and Emily V. O’Brien, all at home; a sister, Michele L. Olson and her husband James of Eldersburg, MD; a brother, Timothy J. Putnam and his wife Kellie of Jacksonville Florida; as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Brian J. Putnam.
Melinda was a passionate educator. She received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Penn State in 1996; Masters of Teaching and Curriculum Degree from Penn State in 2004; Master of Education in Leadership for Teaching and Learning from Millersville University in 2009; and Doctor of Education from Millersville and Shippensburg Universities in 2020. She was a member of ASCD Association for Supervisor and Curriculum Development, NAESSP, National Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals. She enjoyed travelling, vacation and party planning, and loved photography.
