Mary E. (Sweet) Bruce, 89, of Troy, PA, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Bradford County Manor. She was the loving wife of Robert R. “Bob” Bruce. The couple married March 21, 1942 and had 71 happy years together. Family and friends are welcome to call from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main St. Troy, PA. The funeral service to honor Mary’s life will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, May 24th at the funeral home with her pastor, Rev. Richard Noggle officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of Mary’s family in Bradford County Memorial Park. Mary was born on December 22, 1923 in Apalachin, NY, daughter of the late George and Lytta (Wheeler) Sweet. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Troy, and the Golden Star Rebekah Lodge #462 where she joined in 1944 and became Noble Grand in 1951. She was also a life member of the Auxiliary of Troy Fire Co., was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Troy, the Grand Paraders Square Dance Club, and the Bradford County Republican Women. Mary is survived by her loving husband Bob, her son Gerald G. (Sandra) Bruce of Lancaster, PA, seven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Robert R. Bruce, Jr., and her brother Miles Sweet, and her sisters Gladys (Sweet) Wilston and Pearl Sweet. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to the Troy American Legion 1 Veterans Drive, Troy, PA 16947 or to the charity of one’s own choosing.
