YORK - Margaret L. (Stambaugh) Gross passed away on Oct. 8, 2025. In her 98 years, she impacted the lives of many, gained friends easily and had an affinity for showing comfort and love to her family.
Margaret was born Sept. 3, 1927, in York, the daughter of Harry and Nona (Hepner) Stambaugh of Wiota, an area nestled between Spring Grove and Jefferson. She was a 1946 graduate of West York Senior High School, where she met the love of her life, Donald W. Gross. The couple raised two children, Donna Lentz and Greg Gross, all while running a small business, Lauer & Gross, in West York. Likewise, they served the community through organizations such as the Optimist Club and their church, St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church.
In addition to her children, Margaret is survived by four grandchildren: Brian Lentz (Dayna) of Wisconsin, Lucinda Gross of Carlisle, Charles Gross of Dillsburg and Greg Gross Jr. (Lauren) of York, and great grandchildren Rowan and Charlee Lentz, Cameron Smith, Ethan Gross, and Eleanor and William Gross.
Margaret was a proud member of her church’s Sunshine Workers, which sought to help others through countless good deeds, and served on the choir and altar guild. She was most happy with her home filled with family and friends and enjoyed cooking holiday meals.
A memorial service will be held at St. James, 25 N Adams St, York, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, with visitation at 10 a.m. A private burial will be held at Margaret’s childhood church, St. Peter's (Lischey’s) UCC.
