YORK - Mae E. (Hewitt) Jenkins, 100, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2008 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Joseph Jenkins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 231 S. Beaver Street, York with her priest, Fr. Samuel E. Houser officiating. A viewing will be held from 11:00 AM -12:00 Noon Wednesday at the Church. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born May 5, 1908 in West York a daughter of the late Governor E. and Jennie (Hill) Hewitt, she retired from JoMax Garment Co. in 1967. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and its craft club; was very active at Crispus Attucks where she was a den mother for 30 years and attended their Senior Center; and was a member of AARP Downtown York Ch. 3060 where she was recently honored for her community involvement and her 100th birthday celebration. Mrs. Jenkins also helped dress dolls for the Salvation Army Toy Drive at Christmas. Mrs. Jenkins is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
