Leroy A. Sterner

WINDSOR - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leroy A. Sterner, a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandpa who left us peacefully at home on June 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Leroy was 76 years old and spent his life devoted to his family, friends, and community.

Born in York, Pennsylvania, on November 20, 1948, Leroy was the son of late Lloyd and Clara Belle (Fogle) Sterner. He graduated from Red Lion Senior High School and enlisted in the United States Army where he achieved the class of Sergeant for Co F of the 40th Army division where he commanded the unit in Berlin from 1969-1970 as a tank commander known as Turner Tankers of Berlin. His training earned him multiple marksman medal awards and was honorably discharged in December of 1970.

He met the love of his life, Kimberly, and they married on April 25, 1970. Together, they built a life full of memories, raising a family and nurturing the deep bond that so many admired. Leroy was a devoted husband and a proud father, always putting his family first, and his legacy will live on through the love he gave to them. He was known for his warm smile, generous spirit, and a heart full of love for those around him.

When Leroy was not working with computers sales, maintaining, managing, or teaching as an adjunct professor at York College of Pennsylvania, he enjoyed outdoor activities where he was able to be part of nature. Whether it was gardening, fishing, or taking his gun for a walk in the mountains, Leroy enjoyed the freedom and openness of God’s beauty.

Leroy's professional life reflected his deep sense of integrity and hard work. Whether at work or in his community, he was a man of great character who always treated others with kindness and respect. His passions included being a director at steam-o-rama, a member of the Yorkana gun club, and as a Sunday school teacher for the men's class all bringing him joy and allowed him to form lasting connections with those he met.

Though Leroy faced illness with a quiet strength and dignity, his spirit remained unbroken. His laughter, wisdom, and ability to make everyone feel special will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His family is comforted by the fact that he is now at peace in Heaven, free from pain, but his memory will continue to inspire them every day.

Leroy is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly; 2 children, son Bronston and his wife Tara Sterner and daughter Larena; granddaughters Caperton, Caylynne, and Cammble; and his sister Jean Waltemyer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of Leroy’s life will be held at Christ Church Yorkana, 5 Main Street, Yorkana, PA 17406 on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Viewings will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 11th and 10:00-11:00 AM on Thursday, June 12th at the church. Burial will follow at Machpelah Cemetery in York. All who knew Leroy are invited to join his family in remembering a man who lived with kindness, grace, and love. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Penn State Cancer Research, Office of University Development, 100 Crystal A Drive, MC CA530 PO Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033-0852 or Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive P.O. Box 4125 Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 in Leroy’s memory.

We take solace knowing that Leroy’s legacy of love, kindness and selflessness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest in peace, Leroy. You will be forever missed but never forgotten.
