ELIZABETHTOWN - Lemuel (Lem) R. Lawson, beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2024, at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. He was the devoted husband of the late Lorraine R. (Smith) Lawson, to whom he was married for 41 years.
Born on July 19, 1932, in Dallastown, he was the son of the late Thomas A. and Martha Belle (Mellinger) Lawson.
Lem graduated from Dallastown High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College in 1955. He was then drafted into the US Army serving in hospitals in New Mexico. After his military service, he worked for a short time in the laboratories at York Hospital and then went on to establish a successful career at Wyeth Laboratories, where he worked in the Inspection Unit until the late 90's. He maintained friendships with many of his co-workers long after his retirement.
A man of faith, Lem was an active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Dallastown until his move to Elizabethtown. An active Mason, Lem was a member of the Red Lion Masonic Lodge #649 for over 66 years. These affiliations brought him a strong sense of community through the relationships he cultivated with other members.
Outside of his professional and civic endeavors, Lemuel was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying countless days hunting deer, pheasants, and rabbits with his friends and relations. He shared a special bond with his beloved dogs, who were his loyal companions on many of these excursions.
Lemuel is survived by his daughter, Lynne Czech and her husband, Paul, of Rhode Island, along with his adored grandchildren, Benjamin Czech of Chicago. IL, and Margaret Czech, also of Rhode Island. His family was his greatest joy, and he took pride in witnessing their accomplishments and sharing in their lives. He was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Diehl, whose memory he cherished fondly.
Lemuel R. Lawson will be remembered for his humility, integrity, and kindness, and most of all, his unwavering love for his family. They stand as his legacy, a testament to his life, embodying the values, love, and memories he instilled in them.
