Laurence E. Cray, 79, of York, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026 at Rest Haven – York. He was the husband of Ellen (Devlin) Cray to whom he was married for 56 years.

Mr. Cray was born on September 4, 1946 in Boston, Mass., a son of the late William and Mary (O’Toole) Cray. He graduated from high school and then earned his Bachelor’s Degree from University of Baltimore. Following a 25-year tenure with U.S. Customs in Baltimore, he relocated to Northern Kentucky, where he began his career as a customs broker. After retiring, he and Mrs. Cray relocated to York, PA to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cray is survived by a brother, William Cray of Watkinsville, GA; two sons, Charles T. and wife Kelly Cray of Reisterstown and Thomas L. and wife Maria Cray of Springfield, VA; a daughter, Julia C. Cray and partner Dominic Mendes of Silver Spring, MD; and five grandchildren, Aliceanna Cray, Torin Cray, Meriel Cray, K. Devlin Mendes, and Desmond Mendes.

Tribute services and burial will be private. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements.
