HELLAM- Larry Violante, Jr., 86, took God’s hand on Thursday, June 13, 2024.
Larry was the loving husband of Marcia Violante, who passed in 2022. Together, they celebrated 66 years of marriage and lovingly raised their three children.
Mr. Violante served our country in the Army National Guard. Professionally, Larry was well known in the York community for managing the former Newswanger’s Shoe Store on the square in Downtown, York in the 1970’s. Larry took pride in buying the latest, high quality fashions for the store, and delivering top-notch customer service to patrons. He also designed the store front windows, where his showcase displays received top honors in the international, Display World publication competitions.
Larry’s family, pets, and home were his pride, passion, and priority. From new acquaintances to long-stranding friends, those who knew “Mr. V” were touched by his kindness, gentle manor, and sweet smile.
Larry retired in 2002 and cared for his wife in her remaining years. When asked how he was able to sacrifice so much, he responded simply, “That’s what you do for love.”
Once Larry and Marcia joined daughter, Kimberly and son-in-law, Bill on their horse farm, Larry was able to care of Marcia with the help of caregivers, enjoy time outdoors, walking his companion dog, Teddy; mow and keep the farm’s grounds and pastures well-manicured; and manage daily farm activities. Larry also enjoyed spending time with daughter, Valarie and partner, Mike, son, Larry, family members, and friends. It was on the farm, surrounded by loved ones, where Larry was reunited with his bride.
Larry is survived by his son, Larry Violante, III of York; two daughters, Valarie Violante and her partner, Mike Rooney of York and Kimberly Violante Yanavitch and her husband, William of York; six grandchildren, Brent Klingel (Paulette), Bryon Klingel (Melissa), Brooke Kelly (Joe), Vanessa Kidd (Kevin), Nicholas Yanavitch (Sara) and Michael Yanavitch (Jennifer); nine great grandchildren; and two brothers, Kenneth Walker and Joseph Walker.
Larry was predeceased by his wife, Marcia Violante, mother, Louise (Chitti) Walker, sister Mafalda Violante Putt, and brothers, Stan Walker and William Walker.
A private celebration of life will be held at a future date.
