L. June (Bean) Leatherman

YORK – L. “June” (Bean) Leatherman, 103, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at her daughter’s residence. She was the wife of the late Carl L. Leatherman to whom she was married for 49 years before his passing in 1995.

Born June 30, 1922 in Petersburg, WV, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert Bean and Blanch (Bobo) Bean. After high school, June continued her education by getting a degree in nursing. She then joined the United States Army as a nurse, serving bravely in WWII. For most of her working life, she was a homemaker. Outside of her hard work, she was a member at St. James Lutheran Church in West York. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and most of all, always taking care of her family.

Surviving are her children, Gary C. Leatherman, C. Joy Reynolds and her husband Harry, and Carlett L. Harootunian and her husband Richard; five grandchildren, Darren, Amy, Carrey, Ashley, and Bradin; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Leona Heltzel. She is preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is assisting the family with arrangements.
