YORK- Joyce E. (Freed) McKinney, 71, died Monday, December 7, 2009 at Manor Care Health South. She was the loving wife of Charles W. McKinney. The couple had just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on November 29. A Celebration of Life Service will be 4 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, with Pastor Richard B. Starr officiating and Susie Julius assisting. A visitation will be from 3-4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. McKinney was born on August 29, 1938 in York, a daughter of the late Sterling B. and Burnace V. (March) Freed. Joyce worked as a proof reader for Progressive Information Technologies for over 30 years until her retirement in 2000. Mrs. McKinney enjoyed reading, gardening, and art, especially ceramics, drawing and crafts. She and her husband loved traveling to Florida to visit Disney World. Along with her husband Charles, Mrs. McKinney is survived by two sons, Douglas L. Siple of Dallastown and Charles W. McKinney, Jr. and his wife, Cathy of Abbottstown; one daughter, Jodi A. (Siple) Kohl and her husband, Alexander "Pete" J. III; two grandchildren, Tegan C. Williams and Ian M. Williams; three step grandchildren, Alex, Megan, and Eric Kohl; one niece Nadine Kauffman; and her beloved dog, Bootsie. Preceding her in death was two brothers, Dean A. Freed and Glenn E. Freed; and one sister, Yvonne N. Kauffman. Contributions may be made to the SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail N., York, PA 17404 in Joyce's memory.
