Joseph J. Bodisch, Sr., 84, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026, at his residence in Gettysburg. He was the husband of the late Laura Ann (Lutte) Bodisch to whom he was married for 62 years.
Born June 16, 1941, in Coplay, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Sinko) Bodisch. He dedicated most of his working life to serving as a food inspector for the USDA, retiring after more than 30 years of work. In his free time, Joseph was an active member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish and the West Manchester Township Farmers and Sportsmen Assc.
Surviving are his four children, Joseph J. Bodisch, Jr. and his wife Christine (Knisley), Michael J. Bodisch and his wife Mary Rose (Good), Brenda Ann Baumgardner and her husband Mark, and Lee Ann Derr and her husband Brian; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Laura and his brother, John Bodisch.
Joe was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed being with family and friends in all aspects of fishing and hunting. Sometimes the adventure of going to their designated spot was more exciting than the hunt itself. He also enjoyed cooking and baking: Family remembers that he had a special fondness for a good cup of coffee paired with a cookie. Above all, Joe was a devoted family man who rarely missed an extracurricular event involving his children or grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 15, 2026, at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 310 Hertzler Road, Mechanicsburg, 17055 with Father Persing officiating. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., York, is honored to serve the family.
Memorial contributions in Joseph’s honor may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Attn: Membership Department, 6 Herndon Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403 or www.cbf.org
