POTTSVILLE- Joseph A. Eckley, 69, of Pottsville, passed away Saturday morning at Schuylkill Medical Center, South Jackson Street, Pottsville. Born in Pottsville on February 10, 1943, he was a son of the late Henry and Sophie Samay Eckley. Joe was a 1960 graduate of Nativity BVM High School, Pottsville. He was the maintenance supervisor for the Pottsville housing Authority where he worked for 33 years. He was a member of the former Saint Joseph Church, Pottsville. Joe’s loving wife, children, grandchildren and friends meant everything to him in life. Joe is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Cornelia M. “Cookie” Stohler Eckley, Pottsville, to whom he would have celebrated 49 years of marriage on June 26th; his four sons, Joseph J., husband of Lisa, of Pottsville, Anthony H., husband of Marliesa, of Palo Alto, Dominic R., husband of Aimee, of Pottsville and Dean E. Eckley, husband of Angie, of Pottsville; his loving grandchildren, Beau, Taylor, Nicole, Kyle, Neiko, Logan, Faith and Emma Eckley; his brother, Henry J. Eckley, husband of Margaret, of Pottsville; his nephews, Christopher, Brian, husband pf Susan and Stephen Eckley and Brian and Robert Boltz. Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning at 10:00 A.M. at Evangelical Methodist Church, 305 South Centre Street, Pottsville. Reverend Kris Perry and Reverend Harold L. Hand, Jr. will officiate. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening at Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & West Market Streets, Garfield Square, Pottsville, and also on Thursday morning from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at the church. Interment will be held in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Hillside, Pottsville. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Joseph A. Eckley’s Grandchildren’s College Fund, C/O Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & West Market Streets, Pottsville, PA 17901. Contributions will be accepted at the viewings on Wednesday evening at the funeral home and also on Thursday morning at the church.
