John H. Smyser

YORK- John Hunter Smyser, 46, of West Manchester Township, passed away in his home on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion. There will be viewing from 11:30a.m.-1:30 p.m. followed by burial at his final resting place in Mt Rose Cemetery. John was born in York on February 28, 1976, the son of the late Raymond E. and Betty C. (Smith) Smyser. . John was a class of 1994 graduate of Dover High School. He attended Maranatha Bible College and received his BSN-RN in 2000 from York College of Pennsylvania. John's 22-year career in nursing began at Margaret Moul Home. He continued his career as a Registered Nurse on 4 Southwest at York Hospital. John moved on to Nursing Informatics in 2016 currently working with electronic health record at Wellspan Health. Through his career, regardless of the location, John was cherished and beloved by his coworkers and patients. His natural gift of serving people exemplified through his being a mentor and preceptor to many nurses. His infectious laugh and bright smile could light up any room. John enjoyed travel, especially trips with his mother to New York City. Spending time with his large group of friends and family was his favorite past time. John thrived in having back yard picnics, game nights, adventures, and family gatherings. To John, everyone he loved was his family and he cherished each and every one. He had a tremendous gift for photography and that passion took him to places as far as Jamaica to photograph a beloved friend’s wedding. He was a huge Reba McEntire fan attending numerous concerts. He also enjoyed his hobby of DJ'ing weddings and parties on the weekends. His dachshund Cody brought many years of joy to John. Cody stole the spotlight every time he showed off the unique tricks John trained him to perform. John leaves a brother Raymond A. Smyser and his wife Kimberly R. of Red Lion; two nephews, Austin Weller and Aiden Zalmanek; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and friends who through the years became family.
