YORK- Jeffrey S. “Scotty” Ney, 83, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Country Meadows, Trolly Rd. in York. He was the husband of the late Beth Nain (Levengood) Ney. The couple had celebrated 58 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2021.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 10 am on July 18, 2026 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with a visitation from 9:30-10a.m. The service will be webcast live and can be viewed by searching Jeffrey’s obituary at HeffnerCare.com. Pastor Ethan Levengood will be officiating at the service. Burial will be private in Millbach Meetinghouse Cemetery in Millbach, PA.

Mr. Ney was born in Reading on October 2, 1942, the son of the late Harold C. and Dorothy Mae (Heist) Ney. He was a 1960 graduate of Cocalico Union High School in Denver, PA and attended Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA before being drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam war, where he served as a proud member of the “Big Red One” Infantry Division.

Jeffrey was an award-winning Chef. After his military service, he began his career in food service as a restaurant manager in Hyattsville, MD and then moved to a management position at Dempsey’s Diner in Pottstown, PA. His artistic flair led him to the food preparation side of the business, and he moved to a Chef position at the Collegeville Inn in Collegeville, PA. There he was able to refine his artistic talents, creating elaborate wedding cakes, teaching himself to carve ice (he was wicked with a chainsaw!), and experimenting with various forms of food sculpting. He became an active member in the Delaware Valley Culinary Association and loved serving as a mentor to aspiring chefs. He earned the designation of Certified Executive Chef from the American Culinary Federation and was ultimately elected to the prestigious American Academy of Chefs. He participated in many food shows and competitions and collected numerous honors and awards over the years for his food displays, tallow/butter sculptures, and ice carvings and was especially acclaimed as one of the foremost pulled sugar artists in the country. Later in his extensive career, he served as the Executive Chef at the Holiday Inn in Johnstown, PA, the Holiday Inn in York, PA, and the Continental Inn in Lancaster, PA.

Jeffrey had many hobbies and interests. He was a lifelong car enthusiast, from his teenage years racing his Sprite down switchback curves near the Pagoda in Reading, PA to lovingly restoring his sister’s MG while in his late 70’s. One of his favorite things was to cruise back roads with the convertible roof down and his puppies as his copilots. He also had a lifelong love of fishing, whether on a river near his home, on a beach in the Outer Banks, or on a charter boat in the Delaware Bay or Atlantic Ocean. He loved to fly and had a private pilot license as a young adult. He was thrilled when he was recently chosen for “Dream Flights” and got to ride in a World War II biplane in 2025. He was also an avid golfer from high school into retirement. Jeffrey faithfully followed the York Revolution baseball team and Pittsburgh Steelers football and enjoyed attending games in person whenever he could. He loved to travel with his family and to see and try new things. He went white-water rafting, saw the giant Redwoods and swam in the Pacific Ocean in California, flew a glider plane over the desert in Utah, visited the Grand Canyon and other national parks across the country, skied numerous mountains, gambled in Las Vegas, went crabbing in Maryland, explored New Orleans and rode a paddle-wheeler on the Mississippi River, saw shows on Broadway in New York, was a theme park ride enthusiast, and spent time at a beach whenever he got the chance.

Jeffrey leaves his daughter, Laurie Ney Silfies and her husband Timothy of Pittsburgh, a brother, Greg L. Ney of Mountville, and a sister, Sharon Ney Kirkley and her husband Steven Edwards of Potomac Falls, VA; as well as seven sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
