YORK- Jeffrey I. Hassinger, 73, died on Monday, July 14, 2025 surrounded by his family at home. He was the husband of Cynthia M. (Harget) Bankert. The couple planned on celebrating their 22nd wedding anniversary on New Year’s Eve.
Born on February 19, 1952 in Lancaster, he was a son of the late Robert L. and Anna M. (Newcomer) Hassinger. Jeffrey was the owner and president of Buy Rite Beer Distributor, now known as Bottoms Up, for 33 years.
Mr. Hassinger was a self-taught, and very gifted guitar player who played in the former band Crazy Horse and proudly once opened for Loretta Lynn and Willie Nelson. He also had his own recording studio, Ted E. Bear Productions.
Along with his wife, Cynthia, Jeffrey is survived by two daughters, Christine Groft and her husband, Lee of East Berlin and Michelle Young and her husband, Andrew of Charlotte, NC; three sons, Louie Bankert of York, Jeremy Bankert and his wife, Holly of York and Jon Bankert of Lexington, SC; 11 grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Aleisha, Ian, Keirsten, Ashleigh, Alexa, Andin, Samuel, Zoe and Aiken; 11 great grandchildren; and brother, Tony Hassinger and his wife, Sharon of Palmyra. In addition, he had a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and bonus children including Brenda Tharp & Justin Wagaman. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Courtney M. Groft; and brother, Barry Hassinger.
A Festivity of Life for Mr. Hassinger will be held at a future date. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements.
