Jane (Arcure) Stephens, 86, of Red Lion, PA, passed away peacefully at Rest Haven - York in York, PA on Monday, September 22, 2025. She was the cherished wife of George Harold Stephens to whom she celebrated 68 years of marriage on August 10, 2025. Jane was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her gentle presence and kindness will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 4603 Rocks Road (Rt. 24), Street, MD with her pastors, The Rev. Mary Davisson and The Rev. January Hamill officiating. A luncheon with family and friends will be held following the Church service. Burial will be in Holy Cross Episcopal Church Cemetery at a later date. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, PA is coordinating arrangements.
Jane was born on November 18, 1938 in Clarks Summit, Lackawanna Co., PA; a daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Griffiths) Arcure. She graduated from Abington Heights High School in 1957 where she met her beloved husband, George. In that same year, Jane was crowned Miss Scranton Press Photographer for her beauty and poise, a testament to her grace and charm that resonated throughout her life. As a military wife, she had the opportunity to travel to different parts of the world with her family; a lifestyle that she loved. Professionally, she had careers in hairdressing, photography production, and retail.
Jane was a member of Sweet Adelines, a group of women singers who perform barbershop harmony. She belonged to The Arundelair Chorus, based in Annapolis, MD, for more than 20 years. Jane was an active member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church where she served on the Advisory Board, helped with the annual Strawberry Festival as well as the senior lunch program, and enjoyed creating fresh holiday arrangements for the “Christmas” Greens sale. Jane also enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, sewing, painting, decorating and gardening.
Her family was her greatest joy, and she was fortunate to live close to so many family members, visiting and celebrating events often.
In addition to her husband, George, Jane is survived by a son, Paul Stephens of Red Lion, PA; five daughters, Debra and husband, James Cheney of Adelphi, MD, Patricia and husband, Matthew Wilson of Airville, PA, Ramona Leonardi and her partner, Craig Handly of Yountville, CA, Jo and husband, Sean Field of Lusby, MD, and Georgie and husband, Shawn Murphy of Hedgesville, WV; 16 grandchildren, Timothy, Aileen, Danielle, John, Clinton, Jennifer, Brandon, Jeffrey, Dominique, Alexander, Kasey, Jack, Cameron, Nicholas, Erin, and Julia; seven great grandchildren; and a sister, Carol and her husband, Joseph Chermak of Old Forge, PA. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Leonardi; two sisters, Shirley Neate and Elizabeth Day; and a brother, Joseph Arcure.
