Jane Ellen (Peterman) Hagelgans, born on June 11, 1930, in, York, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024 at the age of 94. Jane was the beloved wife of the late, Lester "Bill" W. Hagelgans. Jane was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Sadie I. (Sprenkle) Peterman.
A graduate of the North York High School class of 1948, Jane cherished her education and fostered a lifelong love of learning. She was a devoted member of Messiah Methodist Church for 50 years, where she engaged with her faith and community. Mrs. Hagelgans worked at York Hospital for 20 years, where she worked as administrative secretary.
Jane enjoyed a variety of interests and hobbies throughout her life. She was an enthusiastic participant in the White Rose Polka Dancers and was known for her energy and joy, which she shared as a member of the "Steppin Tones" chorus. Her commitment to helping others was evident through her volunteer work with the Red Cross and her involvement with the Galleria Walkers.
Jane's family was of utmost importance, her daughter, Kathy Price (Timothy); three sons who have passed on, Randy Stover, Joseph Stover, and Dennis Stover; four stepchildren, William "Bill" Hagelgans, Gary Hagelgans, Jeff Hagelgans, and Julie Bolich; and a loving group of grandchildren that includes Joseph Stover, Jr. (Allison), Lauren Dobson, Samantha Stover, Rebecca Kunkle (John), Alicia Sparks, Trevor Stover (Deanna), and Tara Thomas. She also leaves behind eight step-grandchildren: Will Hagelgans, Zachary Hagelgans, Melissa Hagelgans, Tamera Hagelgans, Nicole Hagelgans, Rachel Harple, and Christa Harple; along with ten great-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren; Jane was deeply cherished by many nieces and nephews who remember her warmth and kindness; and one deceased brother, Harry O. Peterman.
Her life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and dedication, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held 10:00 AM on Friday, October 25, 2024 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Road, York. A viewing for Jane will be held from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM on Friday, October 25, 2024, prior to the service. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
A special thank you to Terry and Kathy Peterman, Larry & Susan Peterman Bloom, Stephanie Martin Kiszonas, and Deanna Stover for always being there to take care of Bill and Jane especially after entering Normandie Ridge.
