James Philip LaBounty, Jr.

YORK- James Philip LaBounty, Jr., 83, died on Monday, July 27, 2026 at his residence. He was the husband of Kathy Anne (Bartlett) LaBounty. The couple wed on June 10, 1965.

Born on July 7, 1943 in Windsor, VT and grew up in Claremont, NH, he was a son of the late James P. and Annie W. (White) LaBounty.

Following his graduation from the United States Air Force Academy in 1965, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He continued his military education at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, CA. He later served a tour in Vietnam with the Office of Special Investigations (OSI).

James earned a Master of Business Administration from the George Washington University School of Business while serving in the Air Force and continuing his work with the Office of Special Investigations. After eight years of service to his country, he was honorably discharged in 1973 with the rank of Captain.

In 1974, he became a partner with Independent Industries, relocating to Lilburn, GA and later Marietta, Georgia. In 1978, he settled in York, where he became a partner and Chief Financial Officer of New Era Die Company in Red Lion.

Outside of work, he was an avid golfer who recorded 3 holes-in-one. As a longtime member of the Country Club of York, he served two terms as President.

In retirement, he made his home at Concordia at SpiriTrust where he served for five years on the Independent Residential Living (IRL) Council. He was also a proud member of the Yorktown Lions Branch.

Along with his wife, Kathy, James is survived by four children, Mary T. LaBounty of Arlington, VA, John W. LaBounty of Milwaukee, WI, Rebecca L. Keyes and her husband, Patrick D. of Washington, DC and Christine A. LaBounty of Harrisburg; brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephew and his beloved dog, Max.

Services for Mr. LaBounty are private at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is honored to serve the family.
