WRIGHTSVILLE- Jacob A. Gilbert, 94, of Lower Windsor Township, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023 at his residence. He was the husband of Shirley J. (Frey) Gilbert. The couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on October 12, 2023.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on December 30, 2023 at Zion United Methodist Church, 1 North Main Street, East Prospect, PA, with a visitation from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be private in Craley Cemetery. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Jacob was born October 18, 1929 at the Forge in Lower Windsor Township near East Prospect. He was the son of the late Robert L. and Cora (Dellinger) Gilbert.
Jacob started his early life working in the family market and farm operation going to the Columbia Markets, selling meats, fruits, and vegetables. He attended Nelson Auction School and was an auctioneer for over 50 years. He formed a family auction business known as Gilbert & Gilbert Auctioneers Inc., located at 264 Forge Hill Rd. in Wrightsville. He was a General Auctioneer and conducted hundreds of public auctions, selling real estate, antiques, farms, and personal property. He also owned and operated Gilberts Store in Long Level, a surplus and variety store and worked at PADE Auto Auction for over 35 years. He served as a Director of East Prospect State Bank for over 20 years. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in East Prospect. He was a member of Riverside Lodge #503 F&AM. He served in the US Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany.
Mr. Gilbert leaves two sons, Brian L. Gilbert and his wife Nathalie of Wrightsville and Steven L. Gilbert and his wife Karen of Wrightsville; three grandchildren, Justin Gilbert and his wife Sarah, Jenny Leonard and her husband John Paul, and Jeremy Gilbert; four great grandchildren, Jovie, Jude, Willow, and Stella; a sister, Janet Evans and her husband David; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Robert Gilbert and a sister, Dorothy Abel.
