Howard F. “Howie” Daniels, Jr., 77, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Karen A. (White) Daniels, with whom he celebrated 23 years of marriage on September 19.
A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 6:00 PM Friday, October 9, 2026 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with Certified Celebrant Amy Favorito officiating. A viewing will be held 4 – 6:00 PM Friday at the Funeral Home. York County Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Interment will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
Howie was born on July 8, 1949 in York, a son of the late Howard F. and Pauline G. (Amspacher) Daniels, Sr. He was a 1968 graduate of Eastern York High School. Howard proudly devoted more than 20 years of his life to serving his country in the United States Air Force and Pennsylvania Air National Guard. He served with the 193rd Maintenance Squadron in Middletown, Pennsylvania, rising to the rank of Technical Sergeant. As an Aircraft Structural Maintenance Craftsman, he dedicated his career to the maintenance and care of military aircraft. His service included active duty during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and he was honored with numerous military awards and commendations. He took great pride in his service to his country and his fellow service members.
Following his military career, Howard spent over 20 years working as a Press Setter for Tyco Security Products and Solutions. Howie was a proud Life Member of the VFW and a Volkswagen enthusiast. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening, and working on various DIY projects. He was a man who enjoyed keeping busy and could often be found working with his hands.
Howard was also a member of the Glen Rock Carolers for 19 years and took part in their annual Christmas festivals. Serving as the president for their 2024 season, he enjoyed the tradition of dressing in the group’s heavy wool coats, top hats, and carrying canes as they brought Christmas cheer to the community.
Above all, Howard loved his family. They were the most important part of his life, and he cherished the time he spent with them.
In addition to his wife Karen, Howard is survived by a son, Howard F. and his wife Elizabeth Daniels III of Abbottstown; a daughter, Heather Barnhart of Johnstown, PA; four grandchildren, Carrie and Adam Barnhart and Hannah and Jasmine Daniels; three great grandchildren, Dawson, Wyatt, and Christian; two sisters, Shirley Daniels of Lenior, NC, and Darlene and husband Kenny Kroh of York; a beloved dog, Bella; and many nieces and nephews. Howard is preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer (Daniels) Ritter.
