Henry Elwood Myers, passed peacefully on January 29, 2018 at the age of 91 after a short illness. He was the husband of the late M. Dolores (Wagner) Myers. They were married for 68 years. Henry was born on July 25, 1926 in York. He was the son of the late Harlan D. Myers and Ethel Mae Myers. Henry graduated from William Penn High School in 19M45. Upon graduation he went to serve in the Army Air Corp in Germany during WWII as an airplane mechanic. Returning from the war he married Dolores and worked for York Corporation as a draftsman. In 1952-53, he went to Millersville University where he graduated with a degree Industrial Arts and a minor in math. After graduation he returned to York City to work as an Industrial Arts Teacher at York High. Henry and Dolores began their family and Henry returned to college, receiving his master’s degree in engineering at the University of Illinois in 1966. Henry then continued to work for the York City School District as a math teacher at Phineas Davis. Besides teaching he sold shoes at Bear’s Dept store, taught night school at Vo-Tech and Penn State—York, tutored students struggling in Math and was the head coach of the York High tennis team in the 50’s. After 35 years of teaching, he ended his career at Hannah Penn Middle School. Most of his former students called him skinny Myers. During retirement Henry and Dolores traveled around the world, getting together with friends, he enjoyed woodworking, tinkering around the house and going to breakfast on Friday mornings with his grief share group and was golfing 18 holes up to this past summer. In November Henry enjoyed a trip sponsored by the Northeastern High School to Washington DC to see the WWII memorial and other war memorials, he was very proud that he served his country. Henry is survived by his children, daughter, Jeri Myers of York; son, wife and granddaughter, Henry “Cub”, Becky and Katie Myers of Cincinnati, OH; daughter, and husband, Jo and Orvin Craley of Hellam; his dog Petee, many granddogs and grandcats and nieces and nephews. Services were privately held at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Saying some last parting words was Bob from his grief sharing class. We would like to thank the honor guard for presenting a flag and playing taps one last time. A Celebration of Life Memorial party will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
