Henry Allen "Herc" Taylor

Listen to Obituary
YORK-Henry Allen “Herc” Taylor, 85, of Manchester Township, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026, at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York. He was the beloved husband of Carole Frances (Danison) Taylor. Together they shared a remarkable 65-year marriage filled with love, laughter, and unwavering partnership, joyfully celebrating their anniversary on July 9, 2025.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road in York followed by a reception with the location to be determined. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 10, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, both at the funeral home.

Born on August 16, 1940, in Mt. Perry, Ohio, Henry was the son of the late Philip and Marjorie (Hoffman) Taylor. He attended Ohio University to study engineering but left just one semester short of graduation when finances wouldn’t allow him to finish, a challenge he later turned into one of his greatest sources of pride. On July 4, 1975, the very day his only child, Marcia, was born, Henry founded Architectural Testing, Inc. What began as a bold new venture quickly grew into a pioneering force in the building-products testing industry. Known for his relentless innovation, Henry developed faster, more accurate testing methods that revolutionized how the industry served its customers. His leadership and vision earned him the prestigious AAMA (American Architectural Manufacturers Association) Outstanding Member Award, and Architectural Testing received the very first AAMA Chairman’s Award for excellence, honors that reflected a lifetime of determination, ingenuity, and integrity. After successfully selling his company, and enjoying a much-needed respite, he later proudly became actively involved in Molimo, another building products testing company started by several of his former employees and helped lead that to another growing success story that continues today.

Henry carried that same energy into everything he loved. A passionate basketball fan and player, he never missed a good game. He was a long-time member of the Out Door Country Club in York, where he enjoyed camaraderie and sipping martinis while contemplating future business plans. Friends and family will always remember his quick wit and signature quips, “I’m in pretty good shape for the shape I’m in” and his classic line, “My father was Mr. Taylor, you can call me Henry,” delivered with that trademark Henry grin that would make everyone smile.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carole; his daughter, Marcia R. Biscoe and her husband Richard of Lititz; three cherished grandchildren, Laura, Owen, and Amanda Biscoe; and his seven sisters: Dorothy Kennedy, Phyllis Shoemaker, Virginia Verne, Kathryn Ortman, June Taylor, Rachel Staley, and Mary Landrum.
