YORK – Gloria J. (Staley) Becker, 92, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family while comforted by the attentive staff of 'In Perfect Hands', and under the care of Hospice & Community Care. She was the wife of the late Ronald W. Becker.
A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM Friday August 9, 2024 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 25 W. Springettsbury Avenue, York, PA. Following that, a Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Stanley Reep officiating. Arrangements made by Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory. Born September 17, 1931 in York, a daughter of the late Walter C. and Dorothy (Sipe) Staley, she was a 1949 graduate of William Penn Senior High School. Over the years, Mrs. Becker had worked as a waitress at Avalong Farms Restaurant in East York; sales at Gardners Candies and Pat Mogart Bridal Shop; secretarial work at Green’s Dairy, York County Housing Authority, and West York Borough. In retirement, she was an associate at the Heffner Funeral Chapels and was known as the “sample lady” when she provided new food samples at various York County grocery stores. Gloria was a member of the OptiMrs Club of York County and St. James Lutheran Church, West York where she was involved in their Senior Group. She loved gathering with her friends, going on bus trips, and playing cards. Most of all, she cherished every moment she spent with her family.
Mrs. Becker is survived by a son, Larry S. and wife Deborah Becker of York; three daughters, Cindy J. and husband Rich Newcomer of York, Debora B. and husband Wade Young of Glen Rock, and Carol L. and husband Robert Henze Jr. of York; eight grandchildren, Tara Heidel, Kristen Kimmel, Renee Richardson, Allison Lehr, Marianne Moran, Johanna Wagner, Robert Henze III, and Drew Young; 22 great grandchildren; and was expecting her first great great grandchild in November. She was also survived by nieces and nephews. Gloria was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Staley, Kathryn Fritz and Edna Sites.
