George R. "Rabbit" Mortorff, Sr.

AIRVILLE- George R. “Rabbit” Mortorff, Sr., 95, of Lower Chanceford Township, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Elliouse (Smith) Mortorff.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion, with a visitation from 1:30-3:00pm. The service will be webcast live and can viewed by searching George's obituary at HeffnerCare.com. Burial will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.

Mr. Mortorff was born in Mount Holly Springs on May 4, 1930, the son of the late Laymon G. and Nora I. (Nickles) Mortorff. He retired in 2004 from Labor’s Union International #1167, where he was a heavy construction laborer. Prior to that he was a union ship builder and welder in Port Deposit, MD.

Mr. Mortorff enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, gardening and almost anything outdoors. He was also known for his love of scratch off lottery tickets. He served in the US Army during the Korean war.

Mr. Mortorff leaves four sons, Georgie (Sue) Mortorff, Dennis (Barbara) Mortorff, Bobby Mortorff, Fred (Claudette) Mortorff; two daughters, Dorothy (Richard) Wright and Bonnie (Jeff) Reeves; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; seven great, great grandchildren; a brother, Laymon Mortorff; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Hurshal Mortorff and numerous siblings.
