HELLAM- George Henise, 89, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Phyllis M. (Stambaugh) Henise to whom he was married 64 years. The couple wed on May 18, 1962.
Born on January 31, 1937 in York, he was a son of the late Harvey A. Henise and Evelyn R. (Kraft) Damey. George was a mechanic at Motor Freight, Preston Trucking and Mushroom Express Co. over the years until his retirement.
George was a talented handyman who could fix or build just about anything. He enjoyed working on cars, houses, and garages. In his free time, George enjoyed watching NASCAR, working on puzzles, and, in his younger years, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Along with his wife, Phyllis, George is survived by two sons, George H. Henise and his wife, Stacy of Red Lion and Brian A. Henise and his wife, Carla of Myrtle Beach, SC; four daughters, Georgia R. Smith of York, Linda S. Henise of York, Michelle L. Shultz and her husband, Barry of Hellam and Kathleen A. Mong and her husband, Terry of Dover; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mary Bentz of York. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Cindra R. Bowers and Lucinda D. (Gladfelter) Williams; three brothers, Robert Henise, Roy Henise and Barry Henise; sister, Doris Gemmill; and son-in-law, Timothy A. Smith.
A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with Pastor Kevin Becker officiating. A viewing will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.
